Mount Rushmore "The Big Heads"

Thursday we went bright and early to see "The Big Heads" as Steve likes to call them.
Mount Rushmore the 4 presidents, Washington represented the "Birth" of our country since he was our first president. Jefferson symbolized "Expansion", he was responsible for the Louisiana purchase in 1803. Theodore Roosevelt represented the "Development" of our country with the construction of the Panama Canal. Lincoln embody the "Preservation" of the union of states in confronting the challenges of the civil war.

The entrance to the monument

Mount Rushmore took the sculpture Borglum, 14 year to complete: from October 4, 1927 to October 31 1941

Celina, Steve and Logan in front of Mount Rushmore. It was a very cold windy day on this mountain. It was still one of the best times to see all the attractions around Rapid City with little or no people around and all the beautiful fall colors.

The walk of flags from each of the states.

Profile view of George while driving through the Black Hills.

The mountains had small one car tunnels dug out in the mountain. We went through this one to see a mountain view of Mount Rushmore on the other side.
